Big life announcement: I love her. And we are having a wedding. Why do I love her? Let me count the first twenty reasons.
She drinks Peet’s coffee, way too strong, with a massive amount of half-and-half
She’s beautiful in at least nineteen different ways
She’s smarter than everyone she interacts with but is kind enough to let them feel smart sometimes too
She shops online like a goldfinch looking for the perfect twig
She emanates a goodness that is rare and often goes unseen, not fitting the frame of the world’s inverted values
She’s got a book of Alexander Pope’s poetry that’s been sitting in the same spot on her coffee table for like three months for some reason
She snores sometimes but in a charming way, like a baby bear in an old Disney cartoon
She’s resilient in ways that really only exist in Greek tragedies and Shakespeare plays and that one show about the woman who loses almost everything and then one day finds it all
She’s competitive at every game but tries to act casual about it
She talks to dogs like they’re little jellyfish who washed up on the shore and need help getting back in the water (ie tenderly)
She watches the morning news, which nobody else has done since 1997
She finds cheap deals on items you would never want to buy anyway
She unpacks her suitcase on a trip by just setting it down, opening it up, and randomly pulling clothes out onto the floor, leaving a little explosion of shirts
She knows the Great British Baking Show by heart and I like it too but my god can we watch something else
We went to a river for her birthday last summer and she brought along a $5 inflatable raft, but the water was ice cold and the raft sank immediately, so we just sat there on the shore, in the grip of early love, trying to understand all the feelings that were happening to us.
When she’s laughing hard, she sometimes makes this “Ah!” sound like she’s at the top of a rollercoaster and her hat just flew off
She’s really good at tennis but looks INSANELY bored when she’s playing it
She roasts me so hard sometimes and it only makes my powers stronger
She hates subtitles so much that we once saw a subtitled movie in a theater and it made her physically ill
She did a halftime kicking competition at a professional soccer game once and just sort of ran around the field in the most lovely way possible (she lost)
Mazel Tov!
